Chinese chart prediction
It’s a girl!
Based on lunar age 29, lunar month 6.
For entertainment only. The Chinese gender chart is a folklore tradition, not a medical or scientific tool. For an accurate prediction, your healthcare provider can offer ultrasound or non-invasive prenatal testing.
What is the Chinese gender chart?
The Chinese gender chart (sometimes called the Chinese gender calendar or Chinese baby calendar) is a folklore tradition said to come from a Qing dynasty royal tomb. It pairs the mother’s lunar age at conception with the lunar month of conception and predicts a boy or a girl.
There is no science behind it. Multiple studies have looked at how often the chart matches real outcomes, and it lands at roughly 50% accuracy — the same as a coin flip. People love it anyway because it’s a fun pre-ultrasound guessing game.
How accurate are real gender tests?
- Non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT): >99% accuracy from about 10 weeks. Detects fetal DNA in mother’s blood.
- Anatomy ultrasound (18–22 weeks): 95–99% accurate when performed by an experienced sonographer.
- Chinese gender chart: ~50% — same as flipping a coin.
- Ring-over-bump, Mayan calendar, baking soda urine test: all folklore. No reliable evidence.
Frequently asked questions
- How does the Gender Predictor work?
- It uses the Chinese gender chart, a folklore tradition based on the mother’s lunar age at conception and the lunar month of conception. The chart pairs each combination with a predicted boy or girl. We convert Western age to lunar age by adding one year (the Chinese tradition counts time in the womb as the first year).
- Is the Chinese gender chart accurate?
- It’s a folk tradition with no scientific basis. The chart has only a 50% chance of being correct by random luck — about the same as flipping a coin. Use it as a fun keepsake or party guess, not as a medical prediction.
- How accurate are actual scientific gender tests?
- Modern non-invasive prenatal tests (NIPT) screen fetal DNA from maternal blood and reach >99% accuracy from about 10 weeks of pregnancy. Anatomy ultrasounds between 18–22 weeks identify gender about 95–99% of the time. Both are far more reliable than any folklore chart.
- What is ‘lunar age’?
- In Chinese tradition, a baby is considered 1 year old at birth (counting the time in the womb), and gains a year at each Chinese New Year. For simplicity, our tool approximates lunar age as Western age + 1, which matches the most widely shared version of the chart.
- Can I use this before conception to choose a gender?
- No. There’s no scientifically validated method to choose your baby’s gender at conception using folklore charts. The Chinese chart is a fun look-back tool, not a planning device. Methods that claim to do this — diet, timing, position — have no reliable evidence behind them.
