Privacy Policy

The short version: the calculators run in your browser and the free tracker stores its log on your device — neither sends your cycle data to us. The only cycle data that ever reaches our servers is the optional Pro cloud-sync log, which exists so your history can follow you between devices. It’s opt-in, we never sell or share it, and you can delete it at any time. This page lays out the longer version.

1. What we collect

Calculator inputs (dates, ages, blood types): not collected. These are processed in your browser only and are discarded when you refresh or leave the page.

Tracker log (free): stored only in your browser’s local storage, on your device. It is never sent to our servers.

Account details: only if you choose to create an account — your email, optional name, and either a hashed password (we can’t read the original) or your Google sign-in identifier. No account is needed to use the calculators or the free tracker.

Pro cloud-synced cycle log: only for Pro members who use cloud sync — see section 2 below for exactly what that covers.

Payments: handled by Stripe. We receive your subscription status and a Stripe customer reference; your card number never touches our servers.

Email: only when you choose to email us. We reply, then keep your email in our inbox like any other email conversation.

Live chat: if you open the chat widget, your messages and basic device info are processed by tawk.to, the chat provider, so we can answer you. Please don’t share health details in chat that you wouldn’t put in an email.

Analytics: we use Google Analytics (only after you accept analytics cookies — see section 3) and Ahrefs Web Analytics (cookieless, no personal data, no cross-site tracking) to understand which pages people visit, on what devices, and from where (country/region level). We do not identify individual visitors.

2. Your cycle data

Cycle data is health data, so it gets its own rules:

• By default it stays on your device. The free tracker and every calculator work without an account, and nothing they process is sent to us.
• Cloud sync is the one exception, and it’s opt-in. If you subscribe to Pro and use sync, your tracker log — period dates, flow, mood, energy, symptoms, and any notes you write — is sent over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) and stored in our database, linked to your account, so it can follow you across devices.
• We never sell your cycle data, share it with advertisers or data brokers, or use it to target ads. It is used for one thing: showing you your own log.
• You can delete it at any time. Clearing entries in the tracker updates the synced copy, and emailing us at hello@periodtools.com deletes your account and everything attached to it, including the synced log.
• Honest caveat: data stored on any company’s servers — including ours — can, in principle, be subject to valid legal process. If you want the maximum-privacy setup, keep sync off: data that never leaves your device has no server copy to request. That on-device mode is our default, and it’s free.

3. Cookies

Period Tools uses these kinds of cookies:

• Strictly necessary: basic operational cookies that the site needs to function, including a session cookie if you sign in.
• Analytics & ads: set by Google Analytics and Google AdSense for measurement and ad personalisation. These fire only after consent where required (EU/UK/EEA visitors).
• Functional: the tawk.to chat widget may set cookies needed to keep a chat conversation working.

4. Advertising

The free version of Period Tools is ad-supported. We may display ads via Google AdSense (or, as the site grows, another ad network such as Ezoic or Mediavine); Period Tools Pro removes them. Ad networks use cookies and similar technology to serve ads relevant to you and measure their performance. Your cycle data is never given to ad networks. You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ad Settings and aboutads.info/choices.

5. Affiliate links

Period Tools does not currently use affiliate links. If we add them in the future, we will clearly disclose it — and any such link would only ever earn us a small commission at no extra cost to you.

6. Your rights (GDPR / UK GDPR / CCPA)

If you’re a resident of the EU, UK, or California, you have the right to:

• Access any personal data we hold about you — for most visitors that’s nothing; for account holders it’s your account details and, if you’re a Pro member using sync, your synced cycle log
• Request correction or deletion of that data
• Withdraw consent for analytics or advertising cookies
• Lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority

To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@periodtools.com. Deletion requests cover your account, any synced cycle data, and our Stripe customer record (Stripe retains what payment law requires).

7. Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information (California)

Period Tools does not sell your personal information for money. However, like most ad-supported sites, when you consent to advertising cookies, our advertising partners (such as Google) may use cookie and device identifiers to show you personalised ads — an activity that California law (the CCPA/CPRA) treats as “sharing” for cross-context behavioural advertising. You can opt out of this at any time by:

• Clicking Decline on our cookie banner (or withdrawing consent), which stops non-essential advertising and analytics cookies from firing;
• Turning off personalised ads at Google Ad Settings and aboutads.info/choices; and
• Enabling a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal in your browser. We honour GPC automatically: when your browser sends it, we treat it as a Decline and analytics/advertising consent stays off.

8. Data retention

Calculator inputs: never held — they stay in your browser. Free tracker log: on your device until you clear it. Account details and any synced cycle data: kept while your account exists, deleted when you ask us to delete your account. Email correspondence: kept while it’s useful or until you ask us to delete it. Analytics data: aggregated; individual visitor data is rotated out on Google’s standard retention windows.

9. Children

Period Tools is not directed at children under 13 (or 16 in the EU/UK if local law requires). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe we have, please email us and we’ll delete it.

10. Changes

When we update this policy, we’ll bump the “Last updated” date at the top. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the new policy.
